DAS BAND was a nine member orchestra that performed between 1927 and 1933 in Germany, France, and (once) in Moscow. Das Band was a tavern band to begin with but the flamboyant founder and musical director Bernerd Werner along with his wife, lead singer Demorah Guilderberg, began to introduce twelve tone composition, American jazz and throat singing to their audiences 1929. Performance, presentation and costume stylings became more and more avant gardeners with time, and their style did not prove commercially successful.  According to critics in 1929, DAS BAND had " a laconic approach to tempo that made each song tragic….even the drinking songs."  Das Band last performed in Paris in 1933. In the painting left to right: Heinrich Nueman, percussion; Marie Marie, Devora Heinz, Berta Shmegman, back up, ; Heckshire Lunding, bass: Bernerd Werner, piano; Edvard King & Dermot Singe, horns; , Demorah Guilderberg, Lead vocals..
